Second Time at Clonmacnoise Monastery
This was our second time on Clonmacnoise Monastery but this time we went with a Viking Boat crossing the River Shannon until we get in our destiny. The trip was at least one hour by boat and we could see the landscapes and the way that Vikings used many years ago to navigate. It was a great experience.
Once we arrived into the monastery we had a guided tour and we could see again many different sides of the place and the history that contain in these ruins. Located in County Offaly, on the banks of the Shannon, south of Athlone. Clonmacnoise was founded in 546. The strategic location of the monastery helped it to become a important religion centre, learning, craftsmanship and trade around the 9th century.
From the ninth until the eleventh century it was allied with the kings of Meath. Many of the high kings of Tara and Connacht were buried here.
In the modern day, the site stands as a preserved ruin under the management of the Office of Public Works.

Segunda vez no Mosteiro Clonmacnoise
Esta foi a nossa segunda vez no Mosteiro Clonmacnoise, mas desta vez nós fomos para este lugar em um barco Viking atravessando o rio Shannon até chegarmos em nosso destino. A viagem foi, no mínimo, de uma hora de barco e conseguimos ver as paisagens e a maneira que os Vikings usam há muitos anos para navegar. Foi uma grande experiência.
Assim que chegamos no mosteiro tivemos uma visita guiada e vimos novamente muitas diferentes partes do lugar e da história que contêm nestas ruínas. Localizado no condado de Offaly, nas margens do Shannon, ao sul de Athlone. Clonmacnoise foi fundada no ano de 546 d.C.. A localização estratégica do mosteiro ajudou a se tornar um importante centro religioso, de aprendizagem, artesanato e comércio em todo o século 9.
A partir do nono até o século XI, foi este lugar foi aliado com os reis de Meath. Muitos dos altos reis de Tara e Connacht foram enterrados aqui.
Nos dias de hoje, o lugar se destaca como uma ruína preservada sob a gestão do Escritório de Obras Públicas da Irlanda.
